Republican Haley Barbour, a player in Washington's political scene for more than two decades, begins a statewide tour Monday to announce his run for Mississippi governor.
Barbour, a former Republican National Committee chairman and founder of a successful Washington lobbying firm, released a tour schedule Friday.
Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, would not respond directly to questions about what he thinks of Barbour running for governor.
The governor said he's busy traveling the state to promote education and jobs.
Barbour began testing the political waters last year by traveling to 59 of the 82 counties and talking to residents.
