East Central Community College in Decatur and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians announced a joint venture on Wednesday.
An advanced technologies training center in Philadelphia is geared toward preparing workers for high-tech, high-paying jobs.
The center is located in a part of the former American greetings plant in the Choctaw Tech-Parc on the reservation.
"The Tribal Council and the chief's goal is to bring high-tech, higher paying jobs to the reservation to replace the jobs that have moved overseas to lower wage opportunities," said John Hendrix, executive director of Choctaw Economic Development. "So all of this is to bring the jobs to the manufacturing, with Gilliberti, as well as the training and workforce improvements through the East Central Community College Training Center."
Officials also announced a partnership with the maker of electric-powered vehicles that will occupy part the American Greetings Building as well.
