Meridian, Miss. Meridian police say a routine traffic stop Sept. 4 led to federal charges being filed against a man who was in the United States illegally.
The MPD says a patrol officer stopped a vehicle whose driver was speeding on Highway 19 South.
The police say the driver and occupants of the vehicle were illegal aliens.
Officials say one person, 31-year-old Baltazar Zuniga, had been deported from the U. S. by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in January of 2005, based on his convictions for aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft in Florida.
Zuniga is now charged with entering the United States after deportation without permission of the attorney general after being convicted of a felony.
