Meridian Reading Fair

The Meridian area reading fair was held Monday at MSU-Meridian.

Students from kindergarten through twelfth grade participated by first reading a book, then making a project to illustrate what they learned.

The winners from local schools competed against each other in hopes of moving a step closer to the state competition.

"It encourages them to read and it helps them to perfect their reading skills," said coordinator Carol Owen. "And then once they work on their board, their project, they analyze what they have read, and they determine the plot, analyze the characters, the solution, the different parts of a story."

Around 200 students competed. The winners from this round will move on to the regional reading fair.
