Victim Recounts Attempted Armed Robbery

Meridian, Miss. A Meridian man says a man tried to rob him outside of his apartment on Wednesday morning while he was leaving for work.

David Tanner says he was getting on his motorcycle before the sun even came up when he looked over and saw a man pointing a gun at him.

"I couldn't quite hear him at the time, so I said, what did you say?" Tanner recalls. "And he said, I want your money, your wallet. I said no, not in those words, but I said no, you're not going to get my money or my wallet."

Tanner says it happened just outside of his apartment in the Northwood Place apartment complex. He tells Newscenter 11 that despite three attempts by the suspect to steal his wallet, he was not about to let him get away with it.

"And I was on the phone with my wife on the cellphone with the ear buds in," Tanner explains. "And I told my wife at the time, I said, call 911. Get the police here, this guy is trying to rob me."

The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a red bandana. This description actually matches the suspect involved in the attempted robbery and shooting near Highway Village last week. Meridian Police say they are investigating a possible connection. Meanwhile, Tanner says he never feared for his life during the incident.

"Not at all," Tanner maintains. "The individual is lucky I didn't have my pistol on me because it was a life threatening situation and I just took my chances and won I guess this time. Next time, I may not be so lucky."
