The Meridian School Board has accepted the resignation of Judy Ratcliff, effective Feb. 12.

The former principal at West End Elementary had been on administrative leave with pay, pending a state auditor's investigation into alleged spending irregularities involving federal grants.

The board also took action to help prevent future occurrences.

"The administration has requested from the board the ability to hire a local CPA firm to help look at the internal controls surrounding federal programs," said Suzanne Smith, chief financial officer of Meridian Public Schools. "This is the result of events that have happened recently at West End Elementary and as a district we are committed. While we know no district can be fool-proof, we're committed to trying to fine tune and have the best possible system that we can."

The state auditor's office has not publicly released any of its findings.
