MPD Says Rape Suspect in Custody

Meridian police say they have a suspect in custody for the rape of a 13-year-old girl Tuesday. Officials say charges are pending.

The MPD says the incident happened around 8:25 a.m. as the teen was walking to school on the east side of town. Officials say she was kidnapped and then assaulted.

Police say within hours, a cooperative investigation involving the Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division and the Crisis Intervention Team of Wesley House, the suspect was in custody.

The police department says more information about the suspect will be released after formal charges are filed.
