Meridian, Miss. Meridian High School football player, C.J. Hampton was honored Monday by the U.S. Army for his selection to play in the Army All-American Bowl.
Hampton was presented with an honorary All-American Bowl jersey from local soldiers in front of his friends, family, teammates and classmates.
Only 90 students from across the country were selected to play in the game. Meridian high coach Larry Weems was also honored.
"It's a big honor to me," said Hampton. "I'm extremely proud of myself. I appreciate everyone that helped me get to the point that I am."
"C.J. embodies a unique set of skills, not only on the field but off the field," said Army SSGT Bellamy. "He has a high moral standard, high character, and he's a phenomenal athlete."
Others who have received this honor include NFL stars and Heisman Trophy winners, Andrew Luck, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.
The game will take place Jan. 4, 2014, in San Antonio.
