Bass Found Guilty

Benjamin Bass of Clarke County has been found guilty in the kidnapping of a Quitman woman.

A jury reached that verdict late Tuesday, after a two-day trial.

Bass kidnapped the owner of Quitman's Curves for Women in Sept. 2001. The jury deliberated for two hours.

"Mr. Bass told the jury that he had an alibi, that two ladies were with him during the time of the crime," said Lisa Howell, an assistant district attorney, who tried the case along with assistant D.A. Dan Angero. "Both of those ladies testified for us on rebuttal that he had left almost 30 minutes before the armed robbery occurred."

Bass will be sentenced May 9. Two other men were accused in the case but have not yet been indicted.
