A United Airlines Boeing 757 made an emergency landing without incident in Meridian Wednesday after reporting a possible fire in the aircraft's wheel well.
Meridian Airport Authority president, Tom Williams, said Flight 275 from Orlando to San Francisco landed about 7:45 a.m. with 90 passengers on board.
Officials said that when instruments aboard an airliner indicate a potential fire hazard, standard procedure is to land at the nearest airport.
An Air National Guard air crash crew came to the scene, inspected the plane and reported no evidence of a fire.
Passengers were placed aboard another aircraft and left Meridian to complete their journey.
