National Symbol Replaced

When Hurricane Katrina blew through Quitman, a National Symbol was damaged.

The American flag that had been flying above Great Southern National Bank was faded and torn. The Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion donated a new flag that was raised during a ceremony Saturday morning.

"We were asked to come dedicate the flag. It was a big honor. It's the first time to do this. First and only time to do this," said Auxiliary President Glenda Wheels. "It's an honor anytime they bring the Auxiliary out. We feel it shows a good name and the Auxiliary does a lot of good functions."

The Honor Guard from NAS Meridian took down the old flag and raised the new on during the ceremony.
