Bay Springs Police are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information on the whereabouts of 26-year-old Randy Hughes. He is wanted on three burglary charges.
It happened within the last three weeks and all were house burglaries. Investigators say no one was hurt and nothing stolen.
Bay Springs police Chief Jimmy Herrington says the reason for the reward is growing concern and rumors in the community that Hughes is wanted for rape.
"That's not true. All he's wanted on is the burglary charges," said Chief Herrington.
Chief Herrington says there are now a number of rumors, and he stresses 'rumors,' circulating throughout the community about what Hughes might do if he were to attend the upcoming Bayfest activities. With this in mind Herrington says patrons should not be worried, "because as always there will be ample security."
"We want to ease the public's mind. We've answered all the calls, but we're trying to protect him and the residents," Chief Herrington said.
Chief Herrington says Hughes is not thought to be armed but he is thought to still be in the area. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Bay Springs police department at 764-3122.
