Are we prepared for the next series of severe storms? That was a question we tried to answer on our On The Record program.
Our guests represented local homeland security departments. Tornado season is already here and hurricane season is not far behind. Officials say they are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
"I think we're doing the right thing. I think we're making sure we're prepared. From the citizens’ standpoint I think again, I don't think this is gonna get better," said Meridian Homeland Security Officer Eddie Ivy. "I think we're gonna have another rough year. Make sure you get those preparations taken now, instead of waiting until the last minute."
Meridian and Lauderdale County officials have agreed to set up a joint emergency operations center for future emergency situations.
