Zeta Phi Beta Sorority held a salute to outstanding minority youth Sunday afternoon.
The purpose of the event was to honor high school students that not only excel in the classroom, but also in the community. The 96 students that were honored represented 16 different schools. Zeta Phi Beta members say that it is important to honor outstanding youth.
"It's so rare that we get to see the good kids. Those who are really doing what they're supposed to and those who really want to excel," said Zeta Phi Beta member LaShonda Catchings. "It is very important that we see that we have good kids out there that are really doing well and that are striving for academic excellence."
In addition to their extra-curricular activities, the students are required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
