The topic at the Meridian Civitan Club on Tuesday was Tort Reform. Local radiation oncologist Dr. Scott Anderson told the Civic Club that Tort Reform is essential for Mississippi.

"Clearly we've become the poster child in the national media for litigation abuses," said Dr. Anderson. "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently put out an alert that businesses should consider whether or not they want to locate in Mississippi. That's not good for the business environment of the state and it's certainly not good for the physicians of the state."

Anderson said he's concerned that the legislative committee recently appointed to study the issue includes the same chairman who refused to consider Tort Reform in the regular session.
