Meridian police said Tuesday that a Feb. 24, 2000, death investigation has concluded with charges in the shooting death of Lenny Washington at 1611 12th Avenue.
A murder charge was initially filed against Hampton at the time, but it was dropped and the case never made it to trial.
Police said Demetrious Hampton was charged on Mar. 20, 2006, with murder, based on new evidence. His bond was set at $75,000.
Another suspect, Raylandus Lynch, turned himself in Tuesday at the Meridian Police Department for the charge of aggravated assault in connection with the same shooting. The MPD says this charge was also based on new evidence. Lynch’s bond was set at $75,000.
Officials said no other arrests are expected at this time.
