Pumping Up

Gas prices in Mississippi are still on the rise, but drivers here are
feeling a little less pain at the pump compared to those in other states.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Mississippi is $1.60. That's 11 cents more than a month ago and 48 cents more than this time last year.

Mississippi's average is still nine cents lower than the national average price of $1.69 per gallon.

Officials say gasoline prices will probably rise even higher as the nation inches toward war with Iraq.

But at least for the time being, Mississippians can take comfort knowing it's not as bad as it could be. In San Francisco, drivers are paying $2.10 per gallon.
