Students 'Adopt' a Pilot

Lauderdale County, Miss. Northeast Middle School's Quest students received a special lesson on geography Friday.

The Adopt-a-Pilot program involves students in "adopting" a pilot and then they "follow" him as he flies. Geography lessons are part of the program.

A pilot with Southwest Airlines, Matt Griffeth, says it is a wonderful opportunity for students.

"It's fun; its fun," said Griffeth. "It's a good opportunity for the future for these guys and for our country to have them involved in. Something a little different and something that maybe could inspire them to future things they may be inspired in."

This program began in 1997 across the U.S. With over 400,000 students to date, taking part in the Adopt-a-Pilot program.
