David Bowen was a childhood classmate in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a good student and a very likable person. I am so glad to know of his very dedicated teaching career at UAW, and I send my deepest sympathy to his family. I was a classmate at Central High School, Memphis '63.

Dr. Bowen will be greatly missed by UWA staff and students. I taught in his department last semester and he was always available to help me with any questions I had. He was dedicated to the students, really had their best interests at heart, and was a truly likeable guy. His family and coworkers are in my prayers.

Dr. Bowen’s family has made arrangements to donate his body to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for medical training and research, and there will be no funeral or memorial services in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. The family has requested, though, that the University of West Alabama hold a memorial service for Dr. Bowen at some point in the future, and the University will do so. Details about the service will be announced when plans are finalized.

He was an exceptional teacher and a credit to historiography. He will be dearly missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
