U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and his Democratic challenger, former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, both raised hefty sums over the last three months.

Musgrove and Wicker are on the ballot for the Nov. 4 election to fill the unexpired term of Republican Trent Lott, who left the Senate late last year.

In campaign finance documents filed Tuesday, Wicker reported raising $1 million from April 1 to June 30, and has nearly $3 million in cash. Wicker received a boost from Wicker-Mississippi Victory Committee, which is made up of his campaign and the Mississippi Republican Party. He received $208,785 from the committee.

Musgrove came close to matching Wicker's quarterly total. Musgrove raised $813,708. Musgrove has $716,180 in cash.

Meanwhile, Wicker's campaign says a TV ad launched Tuesday by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee supporting Ronnie Musgrove "overtly violates" campaign finance laws. It said the Federal Elections Commission requires coordination between a campaign and a National Committee like the DSCC not to exceed $180,800. The Wicker campaign said the DSCC ad is valued at an estimated $240,214.

According to a news release, Wicker for Senate’s attorney, Ben Ginsberg, is filing a formal legal complaint with the FEC about the ad.

Musgrove has also filed a complaint with the FEC accusing Wicker of accepting illegal campaign contributions. Musgrove filed his complaint Wednesday.

Musgrove's campaign says that Wicker accepted donations to his 2008 House re-election committee and his 2008 Senate election committee and then combined the funds to exceed the limit allowed by law.

Wicker's campaign spokesman, Ryan Annison, says "we're in full compliance of the law."
