Meridian, Miss. One person died after a shooting late Thursday afternoon in Meridian, but police have the suspect in custody.
The incident happened about 4 p.m. A call came into police that shots were fired and one man was down in the 1700 block of 32nd Avenue.
The injured man was shot in the lower back. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Law enforcement caught the suspect shortly after the incident on nearby Royal Road.
"The crucial element in this was the person that called in," said Lt. John Griffith. "And I don't even think we've got a name on them that saw him. Whether he left the scene, I'm not sure if they picked him up where he left the scene or if they picked him up over here on 20th Street when they saw him. But they called in and give us the information of where he was at."
Griffith says that caller stayed on the line with dispatchers, which helped authorities greatly.
The victim's name will be released once next of kin have been notified.
