Here are damage reports from Saturday night's storms.


  • At 7:55 pm, lightning caused an apartment fire in Columbus, MS.
  • At 8:43 pm, trees are down in the town of Scooba.
  • At 8:45 pm, small trees were blown down in De Kalb on Highway 493 and Highway 39.
  • At 9:37 pm, wind gusts estimated at 55-60 mph were reported 3 miles east of Meridian.
  • At 9:30 pm, several trees were blown down in Noxapater.
  • At 9:40 pm, wind gusts estimated at 65-70 mph were reported in the community of Zero.
  • At 10:02 pm, Newton County Emergency Management reported trees down across Newton county and measured wind gusts of 53 mph.
  • At 10:45, trees were down throughout Scott and Holmes counties.
  • At 10:50 pm, Leflore county Emergency Management reported that quarter-sized hail was falling in Itta Bena.
  • At 10:54 pm, numerous trees were down with power outages across Leake county.
  • At 10:54 pm, numerous trees were down in Scott county.

Large old oaks down in our yard - not sure of time - the power was out for about 4 hours. High winds, lightening strikes here also.

Winds were quite high at Okatibbee Lake and the highest I would estimate (since I forgot my wind thing) would be around 50mph (roughly around 9:20pm) if not higher at some point, especially as the outflow boundary was passing. You could feel sand hit you from the small beaches across the lake. I did not see it but one fishermen that was there stopped me and told me he saw lightning hit across the lake and later I saw what may of been a fire truck or something in that same area, flashing lights. Got several great pics too from top of the dam!
