Thirty-four-year-old Carol Swanner has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Officials say she escaped from custody after being taken to the hospital Tuesday night for treatment relating to her pregnancy. She had been held in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on charges of probation violation and credit card fraud.
Newscenter 11 spoke with Swanner by phone on Thursday. She said she delivered her baby, Braxtyn McMullan, by C-section and is doing well.
Swanner led authorities on a high speed chase Wednesday morning. She was captured after she wrecked on the interstate, just after narrowly missing WTOK photographer Sidney Luvene, who was on the shoulder taping the chase.
