The city of Meridian's sales tax collections showed substantial improvement from a year ago.

"The latest sales tax figures which are reported to us in March, received by the state in February, so they're January sales, showed Meridian increased FY'03 over FY'02 in excess of $81,000 which is almost a 10 percent increase," Smith said.

For the entire fiscal year to date, Smith said Meridian's sales tax collections have increased over six percent.

City Finance Director Ed Skipper also noted some good news for $6 million in bonds the city will issue for raod paving. It appears the interest rate will be close to 3.5 percent.
