A candlelight vigil was held outside the Lauderdale County Courthouse Sunday evening for a woman who died last week while incarcerated.
The service was held in memory of 43-year-old Sharon Scott who died Tuesday in the Meridian City Jail. Those at the courthouse say it is important for the community to rally around families during difficult times.
"I think it is very important anytime something like this happens in the city jail or county jail and stuff. We all should get together as a community," said concerned citizen Mary Tubbs Kelley.
Scott was found dead in a holding cell just one hour before she would have been eligible for bond. Her death was ruled an apparent suicide.
