According to a witness, a car that crashed and burned Wednesday afternoon was traveling north on Highway 45 when there was an explosion inside the car.
"I just saw fire come out and up from the car," said Karen Bullock. "And as I passed them, I saw the inside engulfed in flames."
"When we got here the car was fully involved. We didn't find out till later that there was a subject inside," said Jon Tullos with Metro Ambulance.
A witness said that it appeared there were two people in the car when it crashed. However, only one person was found inside the burning vehicle. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.
"As far as from a witness statement, the vehicle appeared to be going north bound and the witness advised us that it caught on fire on the inside and he lost control and traveled across the highway and into a tree," said state trooper Malachi Sanders. "But it is still under investigation at this time."
Identified only as a black male, the victim was already deceased when first responders arrived. Coroner Clayton Cobler says that the man's age is unknown at this time.
