Mississippi's unemployment rate rose to 7-percent in January. The losses were attributed to an after-Christmas slowdown and other jobs affected by the weather.
Clarke County's jobless rate fell to 13-percent, still the highest in east-central Mississippi. Lauderdale County's came in at 6.1-percent. Neshoba County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the area at 5.1-percent for January.
Clarke County will have a job fair Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Quitman. More than 30 employers will be there and resource information will also be available.
The job fair is open to all job seekers and there's no admission fee.
