The suspect in a Monday shooting in Clarke County made his initial appearance in justice court Wednesday afternoon.

Richard Lawson is accused of shooting a meter reader, Bobby Ray Donald, at his house Monday. Donald had come to read Lawson's water meter. Investigators say the two got into an argument.

Lawson has been charged with felony assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bond for Lawson was set at $30,000. Kemp said he has a prior conviction for a similar crime in Jackson, Michigan.
