Students at Northeast Lauderdale High School returned to class Wednesday, a day after a 9th grade student died of a self-inflicted wound on campus.

Northeast principal Rob Calcote said attendance was relatively normal. He said many students chose to talk with on-site counselors.

"Whenever you try to take on problems yourself, a lot of times it can be too emotional," said Amy Mosley, crisis coordinator with Weems Mental Health Center. "A lot of times you need an outlet. You need someone to talk with about problems."

"No matter how hard things get, there's somebody out there who cares for you," said Dennis Marks, chaplain of the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.

Counseling for the students will be provided as long as needed. It's also being made available for teachers and parents as well.
