As of 10 p.m. CDT Tuesday, Hurricane Gustav has weakened slightly over Haiti and has been downgraded to tropical storm status.

Maximum sustained winds are now near 70 mph. Gustav is expected to strengthen once again to hurricane status as is moves away from Haiti and across the warm waters of the northern Caribbean Sea.

Hurricane warnings remain in effect for the southern and western coast of Haiti and for the southeastern coast and eastern tip of Cuba.

A hurricane watch is in effect for the northeastern Cuba and for the northern coast of Haiti. Hurricane watches are also in effect for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
