The mission of the 186th Air Refueling Wing is playing a role in the war in Iraq.

Lt. Col. Randy Pope, the unit's public information officer, said refueling crews are in Iraq helping the war effort.

"The majority of our folks that we've sent out so far are aircraft crews and maintenance so, of course, the air crews are flying air refueling missions and the maintainers are maintaining aircraft," Pope said. "They are equipped to refuel most NATO aircraft and all the aircraft in the U.S. Air Force inventory."

Over the past few years, members of the unit have served continuously, with troops rotating in and out, in maintaining No-Fly Zones over Bosnia and Iraq, in Operation Enduring Freedom after Sept. 11, and now in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
