In the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav, you're likely to hear many stories of neighbor helping neighbor in time of need.

Bur one Houma, La., family could never have imagined finding a helping hand in Bentonia, Miss.

On the side of Highway 49 in Yazoo County sits the Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. The sign says 'all's welcome', and the church means it.

"We ended up here at this church, by God's will," said Houma evacuee Jackie Haynes.

After leaving Houma Sunday, Haynes' family expected to ride out the storm in Brookhaven, but they got word the weather might be bad there as well. So they kept moving north, not knowing where they might end up.

"My brother-in-law has some relatives who live near her, so he called them and they said, 'come on up'," said Houma evacuee Gary Gros.

But sixteen family members at once would overwhelm anyone. That's where the Gospel Lighthouse stepped in.

"We just thank God we have been able to do what we can for the people in need," said the pastor's son, Wayne Humphrey.

"We wasn't here but five or ten minutes and people already to help us," Haynes said.

That was after dark, Sunday night. The next day, word spread to other churches and the food rolled in.

"They didn't say, 'well I can't give," said the Rev. John Gallagher of Ministries. "They gave; they brought and they gave. And that's what we was looking for."

The good news in all of this is the church is going to keep its doors open for this family as long as it needs to be here. It looks like that could be a while because Houma is where Gustav came ashore.

Three more members arrived later, and fifteen to twenty more evacuees were expected. But that won't stop this church or this community from helping.

"Their prayer was answered when all the food came and all the warmth and all the friends that came up and met them," said Gallagher. "I told them we're all family."

The Haynes family said Houma, La., officials do not want any evacuees to return until the weekend.

The Gospel Lighthouse said it will give everyone a place to sleep and food to eat as long as they need it.
