The following is the most up-to-date information reported to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency about impacts from Hurricane Gustav.
Power outages:
· 44,841 total outages statewide.
· Entergy: 17,944 outages
· Electric Power Associations of Mississippi: 26,896.
· Miss. Power had 1 power outage as of 6:27 a.m.
· Most outages are still in the south/southwest parts of the state.
Road closures:
· The Mississippi Highway Patrol is closing the southbound exists intermittently in McComb because of heavy congested traffic on I-55. Motorists are urged by the Mississippi Department of Transportation to use caution while driving.
· Highway 90 is open, but the signal repairs are being done by MDOT crews at the following intersections:
· Camellia and Beauvoir avenues in Biloxi
· Broad Avenue in Gulfport
· Beach Park and Jeff Davis avenues in Long Beach
· Market Street in Pass Christian
· Bayview Drive in Henderson Point
· The intersection signals at Cleveland Avenue in Long Beach and Henderson Avenue in Pass Christian are non-operational at this time.
· MS 14 is closed from MS 1 to Rolling Fork because of a slide.
· Highway 24 between Liberty and Gloster is now open.
Shelters:
· There are nearly 90 shelters operating statewide and 10,565 evacuees housed in registered shelters. Those who were seeking refuge from Hurricane Gustav are gradually starting to leave. The peak number of evacuees in Mississippi shelters was more than 14,000.
· The evacuees being sheltered at the Coliseum in Jackson are being consolidated with those in the Trademark Center. An estimated 200 people remained at the Coliseum today and 125 remained at the Trademark.
Schools:
· The following schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 4 because of Hurricane Gustav:
· Amite County will be closed for students, but faculty will report to work.
· Franklin County School District.
· Natchez-Adams School District.
. Wilkinson County Schools are also closed Thursday
· And on Friday, Sept. 5, Amite County will still be closed for students and faculty will report to work.
Local proclamations of emergency:
· 37 have been declared in counties
· 30 declared in cities and by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
