The following updates have been reported to the State Emergency Operations Center in Pearl, related to Hurricane Gustav.
Shelters:
· 29 registered shelters in Mississippi are currently housing 1,048 Gustav evacuees.
Power outages:
· 10,655 power outages in eight counties. Most power is expected to be restored by Saturday morning.
Damage reports as of 1:30 p.m. Friday:
· Homes: 17 destroyed; 67 major damage; 896 minor damage.
· Mobile homes: 23 destroyed; nine major damage; 622 minor damage.
· Businesses: one destroyed; 13 major damage; 36 minor damage.
Local emergency proclamations:
· 45 counties.
· 47 cities.
· Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
· University of Southern Mississippi.
Schools:
All public school districts that closed at least one day this week due to Hurricane Gustav are scheduled to be open Monday. The following schools were closed today, but will reopen on Monday.
· Amite County School District.
· Franklin County School District.
· Jefferson County Schools.
· Natchez-Adams School District.
· Wilkinson County School District.

* Residents in the Louisiana parishes designated for assistance to affected residents and business owners can begin the disaster application process by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) Monday through Sunday until further notice. Applicants registering for aid should be prepared to provide basic information about themselves (name, permanent address, phone number), insurance coverage and any other information to help substantiate losses.
