Local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution when driving after Friday's tragic accident that claimed the life of an elderly Kemper County woman.

While walking through the parking garage at Jeff Anderson Hospital, Authorities say 78 year old Marie C. Payne of Dekalb was backed over by a full size truck around 9 a.m. and later died of internal injuries during surgery.

"It is like pulling up on a railroad crossing-look and listen before you cross, look behind you check behind you. Anytime in a parking garage like that you need to be more aware of surrounding because there will be people parking and walking and it is just unfortunate that this had to happen," said Captain Jeff Lewis with the Meridian Police Department.

Lewis says the investigation is closed.
