The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department officially took control of all personnel and equipment of the now-defunct County Patrol Tuesday.
Sheriff's department officials say the vehicles may not be suitable for use, but the added manpower will be beneficial.
"We believe the addition of the five slots that we have received from the board of supervisors that were formerly the county patrol are going to be a great asset to the sheriff's department," said Maj. Ward Calhoun. "We're excited to get their experience and to get that personnel here at the sheriff's department and we'll be utilizing those positions to better serve the citizens of Lauderdale County."
Two of the county patrolman have decided to remain with the sheriff's department, leaving three slots to be filled.
