Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Tuscaloosa police say an ex-deputy sheriff ran his wife and her male companion off the road, killing them both before fatally shooting himself.

Sgt. Dale Phillips says the 52-year-old man was found Sunday morning with a single gunshot wound to his head.

Authorities say they were canvassing the scene when they found a truck in a nearby embankment containing the bodies of a 51-year-old woman and another 52-year-old man.

Phillips says investigators determined that the ex-deputy confronted his wife and the man at the man's house before chasing them and ramming them with his vehicle.

Phillips says the former deputy sheriff left the department in 1997.

His name, his wife's name and the name of the man she was with were not immediately released.
