Strong winds from thunderstorms caused isolated damage in parts of Mississippi early Tuesday morning.

At around 3:05 a.m., Lowndes County Emergency Management reported numerous trees down around the city of Columbus. Some trees had fallen on power lines yielding some power outages, and several homes have been damaged.

At around 3:10 a.m., trees were reported down on four houses as well as a Shell gas station in Columbus. An apartment complex had to be evacuated after a fallen tree ruptured a gas line.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue for much of east Mississippi and west Alabama throughout the day Tuesday. Storms could linger into Wednesday morning. And while a severe weather outbreak is not expected, some storms could briefly become severe with the primary threat being strong and damaging winds.
