Scam Warnings

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department has had reports of an individual posing as a claims adjuster for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The suspect is a white male, 35 to 40-years-old, with salt and pepper hair, 5'10" tall, weighing 200 lbs. Authorities say he has used the name of Mike Carr and has a "lazy" right eye.

Maj. Ward Calhoun said all residents, especially those with flood damage, should be wary of anyone who tries to enter your house.
It's possible this person or anyone could steal items of value or swindle you out of cash.

Calhoun urges citizens to immediately report incidents that seem suspicious.

Meanwhile, Meridian police report at least two "pigeon drop" scams happened on Thursday.

Pigeon drops are when someone tries to get you to put up money in order to share in an even greater amount they "found"

The scheme is actually to get access to your money.

Police officials advise you to just keep walking when approached and to try to remember descriptions of the person and their vehicle and to call police immediately.

Busy parking lots seem to be a popular place for these kinds of scams.
