Scholarships were awarded to four students in Meridian Community College's nursing program Monday.
Jeff Anderson Regional Medical center started the scholarship awards 16 years ago, to honor the leadership of several doctors.
A scholarship begun this year was named in honor of Dr. William J. Anderson, III.
A total of four scholarships were awarded.
"The day to day care, the day to day work that goes on the in the hospital. It just cannot be done without a quality nursing program and a quality nursing staff," said hospital board member Jan Farrington. "So the future of that lies in the education of young people in the medical fields."
This year's scholarship recipients are Jennifer Burnside, Anne Showers, Sallye Rainer and Jennifer Reid.
