Sen. Barack Obama swept to a historic victory Tuesday night, winning the presidential election.

Sen. John McCain praised his rival's win.

"I deeply admire and commend him for achieving this victory. This is a
historic election and I recognize the special prize this must be for African
Americans tonight," said McCain. "We both recognized we have come a long way form the injustices of years ago. Let there be no American who fails to cherish their rights on this earth. "

President-elect Obama later addressed the nation, vowing to be a president for all of America, even those who voted against him.

The president-elect cast his election as a defining moment in American history and an answer to cynicism, fear and doubt about the power of democracy.

His victory speech was delivered before a multiracial crowd of more than 100,000 people. Many cried and nodded their heads while he spoke surrounded by clear bulletproof screens on his left and right.

He sprinkled his address with references to the civil rights struggle that has led to him being elected the country's first black president.

To those who voted against him, he said, "I will be your president, too."

RC, what was sickening to me is the boos, hisses and jeers given off by the McCain supporters as McCain was making his last speech (a very nice, respectable speech at that). Also, the jumping around and yelling that you speak of was not just done by African Americans, plenty people of all races jumped and yelled for joy when they found out Obama won. I guess you didn't see the footage of those who were celebrating around the white house. One young lady was holding a "Evict Bush Now" sign as she danced around . . .and guess what . . .she wasn't black.

First of all let me say that I voted for McCain. With that said, I am a firm believer that we should all back our new president, whether we voted for him or not. I am anxious to see how Obama will handle the tough issues once he is in office. After watching the news just now, I am sickened how the group of African-Americans were acting for the camera. I do not feel that Senator Obama is that type of person. I feel that he would be ashamed of the way they were acting, jumping around and yelling. There is a way to celebrate without looking as if you are in a club. I pray that having a black president will enlighten those who act less than decent to realize all can be productive members of society.

It's scary to think that Obama may raise taxes for any business making $250,000 a year. I understand that a lot of you think that it is not a big deal if your business has such a profit to reflect that. Also, people need to remember a lot of small business is what people are employed by. People are not taking into consideration of what it takes to make payroll, pay the taxes that already exist, insurance for the business, advertising, vehicles, utilities, rent for the building, CPA'S, just to name a few. Plus, we are expected to provide employee benefits. How can you wonder why people didn't support Barack Obama? I have a small business, but the raise in these "Obama proposed taxes" could force me out of business and guess what, I will have to cut 45 jobs. There are people that depend on me to support their families. Where is my support?
