Charges are pending against four people in connection with the deaths of two men found in a burned car in Kemper County Wednesday.

A suspect in this crime apparently directed authorities to the site. And now Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie says four Lauderdale County men will be charged in connection the deaths.

19-year-old Larry Jenkins will be charged with capital murder. The other three suspects, Jarrod Coats, Lumontus Scott and Dennis Scott, all 21-years-old, will be charged with accessory to murder after the fact.

Once authorities found the burned car, they immediately began recovering evidence. Two men were found in the KIA Spectra on the Kemper County side of the county line, but Sollie said he believes the murders happened in Lauderdale County.

Sollie said the shootings took place on Jackson Military Road and divers spent the evening searching for a murder weapon.

Authorities have not made a positive identification on the victims, but officials in Starkville believe the men to be 20-year-old Xavier Monroe and 21-year-old Preston Smith, both of Starkville.

The pair was last seen en route to Meridian driving the same type of car as found in Kemper County and they were last seen Oct. 29, around the same time authorities believe the car was left burned in the woods.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency. Authorities say they do believe the crime is drug-related.
