Employees of Meridian's Public Works Department were treated to a lunch of fish and chicken Tuesday, in recognition of National Public Works Week.
Public works director Monty Jackson helped serve the meal.
The annual picnic was started years ago to show appreciation for workers who provide services for every city resident.
"Meeting different people every day, you know, helping people out. Like around the park, Bonita reservoir. I just like helping people, you know, if I could," said Charles Brown, describing what he likes best about his job in Freshwater Treatment.
The picnic is usually held at Bonita Lakes Park, but got rained out this year.
