Alabama Gov. Bob Riley has filled a vacant judicial post in west Alabama.

Riley appointed Choctaw County resident Joe Thompson to be district judge of Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties.

Thompson is currently the chief assistant district attorney in the First Judicial Circuit.

The district post was left vacant when Riley appointed judge Pedro Scurlock to fill a circuit judgeship.
