According to Sheriff Glen Waddell, Deputy Grant Myers was acting in self-defense when he fired his service weapon over the weekend. He says Myers was attempting to arrest Danny Ray McBeth when McBeth came at him with a knife.
"I've seen a lot of cases over the last 28 years and I don't see any other choice. If it would have been me, I would I would make the same call because if not we would've been burying a lawman. We would have been burying him if he had not shot him. There's not question about it," says Sheriff Waddell.
Sheriff Waddell says McBeth was a suspect in a non-fatal double stabbing Saturday afternoon in the Dixon community just south of Philadelphia.
At last check, the two injured were still hospitalized. As standard procedure, Sheriff Waddell says the state has been called in to investigate the shooting.
