The $1.7 million confiscated by Mississippi Department of Transportation employees in a truck on the interstate in meridian is still in MDOT's hands.
Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall said Tuesday it is likely to remain there.
"There's every reason to suspect it was drug money and nobody else has come back and said, 'Hey, that was my $1.7 million'. If somebody walks in and says it belongs to them, then we'll be glad to talk to them and we'll see if it really belongs to them," said Hall, "and what they were doing with it. But if they don't claim it, we're going to claim 80 percent of it."
The other 20 percent would be used for drug law enforcement.
