As Congress continues to consider adding a prescription drug benefit to Medicare, Cong. Chip Pickering, Rush Hospital and pharmaceutical representatives discussed the resources available now to help eligible Mississippians save money on their medications at a Health Expo in Meridian.
"We've taken some immediate steps in the tax relief package that just passed," said Cong. Pickering. "We also had some assistance to Medicaid in our state."
Congress is working on a Medicare plan with a prescription drug benefit package, with some provisions to ease the cost of medication.
Officials say most health care costs to seniors is related to prescription drugs. Several drug companies also met with seniors to give them some alternatives to the higher prices.
