Musgrove-Barbour Debate

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Haley Barbour gave conflicting views of Mississippi during a debate in Biloxi Wednesday.

Speaking to about 1200 people at the Mississippi Municipal League convention, Musgrove talked about a state in which schools are thriving, Medicaid is providing essential health care, and high-paying jobs are being created.

Barbour said schools demand too little accountability, Medicaid is badly managed, and jobs are disappearing. Party primaries are Aug. 5.

Barbour faces lawyer Mitch Tyner in the GOP race, while Musgrove faces four lesser-known Democrats. The general election is Nov. 4.
