Federal Disaster Funds Not Available for Bridge and Road Repairs

Congress did not approve $1.6 billion in supplemental appropriations for the Disaster Relief Fund, which has been hard hit by disasters nationwide.

More than 350 public infrastructure projects in a 13-county area in Mississippi are affected by the lack of reimbursement funds.

Robert Latham Junior, director of Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, says work on some bridges and roads will continue despite the possibility of no reimbursement from the federal government.

Latham says funds may not be available until the new fiscal year beginning October 1.
