J.C. Penney at Bonita Lakes Mall made a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi Wednesday to start a new program called "power hour."
It's a time when children ages six to eighteen come in and work on homework assignments with older club members and professional staff.
"Several of the after-school programs will be receiving this $5,000 award and it certainly makes us proud that in some way we're enabling this great work to continue," said Cresenti Williams of J.C. Penney.
Gloria Campbell of the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi said this donation will affect over 5,000 children in Lauderdale and Clarke Counties.
